This is a short one but I have been looking at a lot of resumes lately. No worries, it’s my job to do that but it always surprises me when people apply for a position that they are not even closely ready for. Yes, I know that I should not end a sentence in a preposition, but this is not a grammar blog 🙂 I totally agree that a candidate does not have to meet all the requirements of the position but shouldn’t you at least have some of them?
I know what you are thinking… I will just apply and see if I am a match. But guess what Ricky Bobby… you are clogging up the candidate pipeline and it makes it tougher for the people that might be a match to get noticed. You are also the reason that so few companies reply to candidates. Believe me, I get it. The last time I was in my own job search it took me eight months to find the right position, but please don’t apply for everything.
The three great essential to achieve anything worth while are: Hard work, Stick-to-itiveness, and Common sense.
